"The student needed help reviewing for the final. After finishing most of the problems, we went over how to do the rest of them quickly so he understood what to do. He felt much better and knew how to do most of the problems, and he studied more after I left."
"The student started working on her homework over the break. Topics in her homework included the fundamental theorem of calculus, Riemann sums, and definite integrals. She has a good understanding of using limits of sums to find integrals, but she sometimes has difficulty breaking things down or visualizing the problem as a graph. I suggested that she draw whatever the situation is so that she can try to find easier solutions. She finished the first two chapters by the end of the session."
"The student still has some more work to do implicit differentiation, but she understands the material pretty well, so we moved on to new things. In particular, we reviewed differentiation of the natural exponential and natural logarithmic functions, and I demonstrated a "trick" for differentiation more complex exponential expressions as well as logarithmic differentiation. I tried to emphasize the importance of taking a strategic approach to problem solving. Sometimes the most straightforward approach is best, but other times a differentiation problem can be greatly simplified by judicious use of algebra/trigonometry before, during, or after. Towards the end, we went over some kinematics (physics of motion), especially under conditions of constant acceleration, and derived the basic equations before solving a few simple projectile problems."
"The student understood the concept of derivatives but was still struggling a bit with algebraic calculations. We discussed the optimization and antiderivative. He needs to practice more to his sharpen algebra as well as be familiar with the concept of antiderivative to prepare for his integration concept in the next lesson."
"The student wanted to go over some practice exams her professor had provided to ensure that she understood the following concepts: exponential decay, compound interest, average value, displacement, and the area of a bounded region. She is an intelligent person and approached all problems with the attitude that she could solve them. She will go over additional example problems from these tests to make sure she has a good understanding for the upcoming exam."
"The student was struggling to understand some theorems such as absolute intermediate theorem. We went over these in detail. He also had a worksheet to work on. We went over the worksheet, and I answered all of the questions that he had."
