Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I began by reviewing a math section that he had completed since I had last seen him. He had no problem with the front end of the section, but the back half - a portion in which there are no multiple choice answers, but rather write-ins - he hit a few stumbling blocks. I helped him walk through the questions he didn't think he could solve, and showed him how to draw inferences about the answer from the body of the question. He seemed to get a hang of how to draw these conclusions, and I left him another math section to try it out. We also took a look at a reading section, which he had completed successfully within the 25 minute time limit. Although he had answered all of the questions, there were a few for which he had chosen the wrong answer. Generally, it seemed as though he would choose an answer that was close to correct without being the best. I offered him some ideas about how to be more discriminating when choosing between two answers that seem close, and how to judge one as better than the other. I left him with another reading section to try this out."
"Working from the SAT prep book, the student and I reviewed the 10th and final practice test. We spent the majority of the session going over the mathematics section. Since we began our SAT preparation, she has come a long way with her scores and confidence with the regard to the math section. She was originally scoring in the 400's and is now close to breaking 600. I think breaking 600 would be great goal for her as she approaches test day; then, perhaps, to break 650 or 700 if and when she takes the test a second time around."
"Final assessment session prior to next exam. The student has been doing very well. We went over some more advanced math and grammar concepts and practiced an essay."
