Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We reviewed telling time. We also finished our food unit and moved on to the restaurant unit. The student was not struggling with anything, he's doing so great. he seemed excited to finish the food packet because he realized just how much he has learned over the last month. He has homework to complete a word search with the new vocabulary we learned today."
"This session was varied, we spent some time learning about the numbers and their basics. We briefly touched upon larger numbers to describe time and prices, which will be covered next session. We also discussed the seasons and weather terms. These helped us engage in short conversations. The students learned the material well with no signs of struggle. They were eager to learn and use the time to have lots of conversation. The more we practice the better their ability to converse has become. I encouraged them to speak to each other in 'Spanglish' although they cannot speak fully in Spanish. The incorporation of the words they know into English sentences is a possible strategy. I left them with the task of carrying out conversation between the two of them as much as possible. Also they should be able practice on their own as much as possible."
"The student and I focused on an intensive overview of the preterite and imperfect tenses. We began by reviewing rules for using preterite vs. imperfect, including key words and phrases that indicate use of a certain tense, and specific circumstances where the preterite or imperfect are always used. We then went over the conjugation for regular -ar and -er/ir verbs and reviewed common irregular verbs. We then utilized a vocabulary list of business terms in Spanish to create sentences using the preterite and imperfect. We then did a number of practice exercises which required choosing either the preterite or imperfect form of a verb."
