Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I went over his reflection paragraph from his reading assignment. We worked on elaborating on our feelings in order to give a more detailed reflection. We also worked on matching the tenses in a sentence and punctuation. Once that was complete, we went over math practice problems. Topics included adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators, multiplying fraction word problems, and finding the missing number in a fraction addition or subtraction problem. The student has made substantial improvements in his neatness and carefulness. His scratch work is significantly more organized than it was almost a year ago."
"The student and I went over word problems involving fixed rates. For example, she was given a certain number of an item, how much the total number of items cost, and she had to calculate a rate per item. She did very well with this lesson."
"The student and I went through her homework and worked on multiplication, division, and their relationship with one another. We then spent the rest of the session drilling multiplication and division problems. At this point, she should be well-versed."
"The student and I work on her homework with adding and subtracting decimals. She did this with the decimal chart and coloring in the equations, we also worked with decimal blocks and modeled the problems. She's gotten a lot better with conceptualizing the amount that each decimal is worth she also did very well on understanding what operation to use during story problems. I'm seeing a lot of improvement since we started working together in the summer."
"The student and I worked from her textbooks today. The books include review work, as well as new material. We did several lessons that incorporated adding and subtracting multiple digits, and also finding missing addends and missing pieces of data in subtraction problems. She does well with it, I think her visual mind helps her with this. She does understand negative numbers, and we also did problems with the number line and comparing."
"The student and I worked hard and made it to 50% mastery on her online resource. She is feeling much more confident about math and is working on mastering lines of symmetry, common denominators, and math patterns. We also worked on division with remainders and she needs a little more practice with this area. I will send a homework assignment on division with remainders. Thanks!"
