Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Helped the student with a lab he was having difficulty with. Then we started studying digestion. We went over the components and the functions of each. Discussed the difference between mechanical and chemical digestion. Also covered the accessory organs; liver, pancreas, and gall bladder. Went over the importance of the mucus layer in the stomach and how the acid is neutralized when the chyme moves to the small intestine. Discussed the importance of the folds and villi in the small intestine and how they increase the surface area for more absorption of digested nutrients."
"Today we reviewed some of the basics of cellular metabolism. We then began to take a look at the parts of the cell and their function. The student was given a homework assignment to reinforce the organelle functions."
"The student and I went over evolution in preparation for her test on Friday. We covered natural selection, genetic drift, variation vs adaptation, Darwinism vs Lamarckism, conditions for evolution, and convergent vs divergent evolution."
"The student and I reviewed how to analyze pedigrees for autosomal/sex-linked and recessive/dominant patterns. I also taught him about co-dominance and multiple dominance."
"We reviewed chapters 15.2 and 15.3 and all of 16. We covered/reviewed Darwinism, evolution, and population dynamics."
"We studied concepts related to plant and animal evolution: desiccation prevention, adaptation to land, embryo protection, increased complexity in mating rituals to increase genetic diversity, increased complexity of body organization, vascularization (plants), and development of full coelom and lungs. We also looked at the classification of plants and animals."
"For this session, the student and I went over the senses, the muscular/skeleton system as well as the immune system for her upcoming half test."
"The focus of today's session was reviewing for an upcoming exam in biology, mainly involving splitting up plants into their appropriate evolutionary taxa using cladograms and phylogenetic trees. We also reviewed some algebra topics from the previous session."
"Today the student learned about how humans have changed the environment. We reviewed concepts such as carrying capacity and learned the science behind current environmental problems such as acid rain and global warming."
"During this session, we discussed science concepts including genetics, meiosis and Punnett squares. When working on math, we discussed mixed sign number addition and subtraction with variables."
"The student and I continued our sessions on "What Darwin Didn't Know." We reviewed some topics that he seemed comfortable with and discussed various aspects of evolution."
"We reviewed glycolysis, fermentation, oxidative phosphorylation, citric acid cycle, photosynthesis, transcription, translation, and x-linked inheritance among others."
