Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, we looked at an assignment that covered factoring and multiplying polynomials. Our session was largely spent honing his skills with polynomials."
"The student and I spent time going over more polynomial work including rational and irrational expressions, multiplying, dividing, adding and subtracting different types of expressions. He seems to be doing better. His grades have improved and I am proud of his progress. He has certainly improved his performance. I am glad of the progress he has made and I am looking forward to more changes."
"The student and I worked on factoring polynomials, determining if an expression was the difference of two perfect squares, and if an expression was completely factored. He understood nearly all of the basic concepts. He was able to do problems when we worked on them together and I asked him questions. It was a lot of material but the student was a trooper."
"For the first meeting with the student, we went through her diagnostic test and worked out the problems to see where she had the error for any questions she missed. When working through the problems, I noticed that most of the errors were small things that she could fix super easily and had her re-do them until she felt she very confident in solving the problems. For next week, we are planning on going through a practice math proficiency test."
"The student and I began the afternoon continuing where we left off yesterday, doing another 30 of her 70 homework problems, mostly focusing on factoring, especially trinomials. She fully understood the FOIL method and has become very good at analyzing complex and square trinomials."
"Today we covered chapter 8 in the student's book over positive and negative exponents. Her biology test Friday went exceptionally well; she said it was "really easy"."
"We specifically covered his make up homework for math. These included MAT 5.2.2 where sequences, systems and exponential functions were used. We also covered MAT 5.2.3 which included sequences, equations of a line, and where I taught point-slope form, quantities, and systems of equations. We also covered some of his earth science homework, where we went over convection, conduction, radiation, reflection, refraction, and endo/exothermic properties."
"Today we covered solving systems of equations by substitution. The student had a positive attitude throughout the session. She has improved greatly on solving algebraic equations and showing steps. She was able to read a word problem and write the two equations that she would use to solving for her variables. We also practiced some old geometry concepts that she said she was covering on her class warm ups. Very good session."
"The student needed help on an assignment to prepare for her chapter test in algebra. The test is on Wednesday and will cover exponents and operations with polynomials. Her assignment was a chapter review which only covered the exponent portion."
"Today the student and I worked through a couple sets of problems dealing with factoring perfect squares as well as factoring equations with multiple variables. Instead of having me check to make sure he got the right answers, I showed him how he could check his work so that on a test/quiz he could be more confident in his answers. We also worked on trying not to rely on calculators, especially with fractions. Overall I'm observing that he has a better understanding of the material than when we began meeting, and picks up on his errors very quickly."
"Met with the student and went over her algebra homework. Many of the problems involved graphing functions so I emphasized the importance of understanding how a simple graph of y=x^2 or x^3 will look and then being able to see how including additional terms will change the graphed function. Other topics included solving algebraic functions and expressing nested functions such as f(g(x)) when f(x) and g(x) are defined. The student seemed to understand everything pretty well and I recommended she just make sure to practice the material more so she gets quicker at solving these types of problems."
"We reviewed for the student's upcoming exam. I brought extra practice for solving equations with absolute value and inequalities. We then went through her study guide to make sure she was confident about the different problem types."
