"The student and I went over the distance formula, the midpoint formula, and the formula to find the other point when given the midpoint and an endpoint. We also went through using the Pythagorean theorem, solving for an angle by using an equation, and finding whether the length of given sides creates a triangle. Her attitude was positive toward everything, like the first session. I taught her that the sum of two sides of a triangle must be greater than the third side. She still had extra problems on her homework that were the same kind of problems we went through. I did see that she knew when to use the formulas that I gave her on her homework. I thought this session went well."
"The student and I went over the review sheet for her test that she took on Friday. We focused on the distance and midpoint formulas and a few algebraic rules. After she completed the problems, I started working on some Algebra review with her that we will continue to work on in our future lessons. Overall, she demonstrated that she understands the Geometry material and was able to complete the problems independently. "
"The student and I went over the two review sheets with solutions that covered topics in his upcoming test on Chapter 2. It covers proving plane geometry problems. We did around 10 new ones, plus I reviewed the prior 10 that he already worked on. He shows he is a little anxiety about his upcoming assessment or test on proofs in Geometry. However, he seems quite prepared for said test. I did not see any grades or scores yet. I did give him pointers in proving, like making sure missing steps are minimized and making sure he translates congruences to algebraic equations. He sometimes gets stuck on whether or not to spell out a intermediary or somewhat obvious step."
"The student and I went over two chapters of textbook homework problems! She's doing a great job and understands most of the concepts. She has an upcoming test, but says she feels pretty confident. I'm very impressed with her work ethic."
"The student and I went through her assignment on the transitive property of congruence and substitution, as well as her assignment on vertical angles. She is very good at coming up with the correct solutions; she mainly struggles with putting her proofs into words. I think she will do very well on her upcoming test, though. We finished the session by going through her algebra worksheet."
"The student and I went through her homework on logic. She is much more confident of herself than she was at the start, although her grasp of the material sometimes stops just shy of understanding WHY this or that formula is used. In the future, I will try to devote more time to developing her understanding of theory, possibly giving her extra practice or compiling a list of helpful online videos. In the world of standardized tests I see the precedence application ability must have over comprehension of theory, but we will do what we can to really deal with WHY the math works, not just how!"
