Session Summaries by Geometry Tutors

The student scored a 100% on his test over surface area and volume. His class started the next chapter covering circles. We looked at the first few sections over inscribed angles and chord lengths. He seemed to grasp the concepts and we did a few sample problems.

We looked at the student's geometry assignment together, then I showed him sample ACT and SAT tests I had brought in, since he had expressed an interest in those in our session on Monday.

In this session we worked on circles, specifically going over a previous test that the student took and did not do as well on. To prepare for the retake of the exam, the student is supposed to work through the exam again on her own and also complete the odd problems from the sections covered. We also worked though a practice packet for the exam so that she was more confident in understanding what the questions were asking of her. She is doing well with understanding that information and learning how to eliminate answer choices.

Today we went over the Chapter Tests for Chapters 9 & 11 finishing off the chapters for the student's final. He did fairly well on both, as most mistakes happened due to him working fast. I advised him to slow down and take his time on the final and pay good attention to detail. He knows how to go about solving most of the problems and which formulas to use. However, he does not have the formulas memorized since he is allowed to have a "cheat sheet" on the final. Chapter 11 was a bit more challenging for him, so we also went over few more test problems the book. We will meet again for the final time this semester on Wednesday to go over any other areas where he needs help.

The student and I went over brief concepts in each chapter from chapters 1-12 in preparation for his upcoming cumulative test. He mentioned to me that he received a 99% on his chapter 12 exam for which he took today - great job!! He has made progress throughout this semester. I advised him to study and review chapter 4 and 5 for which he was having the most struggle with in preparation for his upcoming cumulative test and I also advised him to scrub his formula sheet to see what he can put on his notecard to make it the most effective. This session concluded our sessions for this calendar school year - I have very much enjoyed working with this family and it has been nice to see his progress and hard work pay off!!

Greenwood, IN Geometry tutoring
Today we studied properties of circles, arcs, and the lines and angles which can be put inside, on, or near the circle. We talked briefly about central and inscribed angles and how they relate to the measure of the cords they define. I explained the process of finding an arc length from its degree measure and the circumference of the circle. We then took some time to focus on the theorems which the student found less intuitive. We went through several problems in that chapter in order to see how comparative angle measures and cord lengths can be calculated using the given theorems. During this I gave him a brief lesson about solving equations for an unknown.
