Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"I assessed the student on phonics and word recognition. He used some comprehension strategies, but needs to use other strategies to help him comprehend the text. He was engaged during this session. He was able to recognize about 40 sight words of the 51. He is active at times so, I will teach him some strategies that can be accommodating to his needs."
"The student and I continued to focus on vowel combination sounds. We also reviewed some beginning and ending blends. I let her go home with some of the work we have been practicing and some of the activities. Overall, this session was good."
"Both girls are progressing rapidly, thanks to the diligence of their parents. The girls have read all of the books I have taken over and left with them. After cleaning out their book boxes and bringing home the "too easy" books, I have a whole set of new books to take over. I am impressed that the parents are going to the library to try to find leveled books for the girls. We talked about levels of books last week and what levels are instructionally appropriate for the girls. I have been doing less writing during lessons because the girls are writing daily with/ for mom, copying texts. We started singing some songs, so I hope to transfer the lyrics to writing exercises for the girls to remember the words instead of copying them."
"The student completed his outline in preparation for his final examination tomorrow. We added important supporting details and established guiding thesis statements. He will contact me in the fall for help as needed with American history. He has been a pleasure to work with!"
"We began reading sight words. There were a few the student had difficulty with, so we spent some extra time on those words. I read some words to her and had her write them. She correctly wrote 4 out of the 6. She read words containing all the consonant blends we have been working on. In handwriting, she practiced writing K and k. She reread a difficult level B book and then wrote about it."
"We covered consumption patterns in the United States. Both students did well with the concepts covered. They were very creative with the examples they have, to understand the key terms in the passage. They were engaged in the lesson. It was a productive session."
