Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During this session I helped the student prepare for a chemistry test. In order to prepare for this he needed to complete an assignment involving specific heats and the equation delta H = mCdeltaT. I helped him work through different usages of this equation and how to apply them correctly. He appeared to be much more confident and prepared for the test by the end of our session."
"We had a great session today! We reviewed some basics from algebra/geometry and learned the distance formula and practiced its use, with great success! Then we moved on to chemistry, where we went over the student's notes from class, then she started on some of her homework. She is now learning about the phases of matter and how matter changes from one phase to another - solids, liquids, and gases, along with special types of solids. We covered numerous sub-topics in this genre and began to build her conceptual understanding with the use of mnemonics. I am very excited about the progress! She seemed eager to try finding her own solutions and develop her reasoning today."
"Today was my first meeting with the student. We began the session with an introductory period in which she, her mother, and myself went over their situation and goals for tutoring. I went over my methodology and philosophy for tutoring, and we discussed the best ways to apply it going forward. She and I then hit the ground running, working on the outlining and thesis writing portion of a report on 'The Great Gatsby,' which she'd been having trouble starting. One of her major pain points is struggling with a blank page and getting started, so we focused on techniques to facilitate that process. Finally, her mother and I had a conversation about her needs. On the whole, I'm confident that we'll accomplish a good deal in the coming months."
"The student and I reviewed his geography map assignment. Then we went over his biology vocabulary homework. Another excellent session. He is really taking charge of his work."
"The student's mother asked me to review all of his work. The student and I went online and reviewed all four of his academic subjects. He just completed a major composition worth 100 points and he got an A on the rough draft. He got a 100 on his Electricity packet. He should be able to take a retest on Circuits and current. He has not finished his unit test on Electricity and should be able to take a retest on that as well if he doesn't do well. He has a 93 in math with no missing work. He has a test in math tomorrow. We did practice problems for each type of problem. I think he will do well on the test. I helped him put together a folder to take on his trip that has all the work he needs to do while he is away and reviewed it all with his mother so she would know what he needed to do."
"The student had to study for a math test and review his math homework, so we practiced finding the slope of a line and making a box-and-whiskers plot. He is solid on both of these. He got straight A's on his last report card, which is excellent to see-- the writing techniques/organizational tools we worked on seem to be working in his humanities class."
