Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We focused on integration problems including the mean value theorem and finding volumes of solids of revolution using the disk method. The student's had some issues understanding how some of the formula involved were derived and felt that during problem solving he had a tendency to overthink. We went over the theorems and worked through the problems together. This helped to restore his confidence for his upcoming midterm."
"General review of trigonometric concepts - included a lot of unit circle review. The student should feel great about her progress! She understands the material very well for having studied it for such a short time."
"The student's teacher started listing the topics that will be on his final, which will focus on trigonometry. We went through the problems that she worked on in class, and I made up a few similar problems for us to practice. He does well when we study by repetition, and as long as we spend some time practicing each lesson, he should be fine on the final. We will need to spend more time focusing on the exam next lesson. His confidence in his ability to pass is inconsistent, but if he puts in the extra effort and studies between lessons on his own, I think he can pass. We will work hard on it in the next session."
"We prepared for the student's upcoming multiple choice test. We worked on a wide array of problems from this past year. She did a really great job and is definitely on track to perform very well on the final. We're meeting once more on Monday, the day before her final, for one last review."
"The student and I worked through the last few lessons in Unit 4, dealing with linear and nonlinear relationships as well as how to graph them. He did really well with the linear equations and picked up on the nonlinear pretty quickly too! We practiced graphing equations and worked on being able to recognize if a graph was linear, quadratic, exponential, or cubic just by looking at it. We got almost done with the project for unit 4, with just 4 or so more problems to complete. We will complete the project in the next session."
"The student and I went over the homework I had assigned from the last session. We also reviewed chapter 1 concepts to prepare for the chapter 1 test. I plan on giving him the test next session after we review the homework I assigned him today. The student has a firm grasp of some concepts, but others he still needs to practice. I also am encouraging him to write out all of his work and use number lines to help him solve problems. I think this will help him figure out problems and catch his mistakes. When doing homework and reviewing for the test, he should focus on solving problems that involve negatives. Also, I encourage him to carefully read the directions and understand the problem before diving into it. He is a bright student that I believe will be successful with some extra practice and encouragement!"
