Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we covered volumes with specified cross sections, and volumes of revolutions. We also looked at how to compute the centroid of a region. All these types of problems require one to be comfortable with setting up and computing integrals. The student seems to understand integration theory on the intuitive level that one should to work comfortably in these topics."
"Today, the student and I began work on chapter 6, linear functions. He reported that he received a score of 77 on his test, which I am pretty excited about, given where we started. Moving forward into this next chapter, I am especially optimistic because he has a lot of experience in working with linear functions. I gave him a brief review of slope, standard form, how to find intercepts, and slope-intercept form, and then I simply set him loose on his assignment. He had no problem with it, completing two sections while I was there. He will take a quiz on 6.1 and 6.2 later today, and I expect that he will perform well."
"We reviewed Chapters 1 and 2 in preparation for her quiz tonight. We spent most of our time doing "word problems." She could usually answer questions when I prompted her, but she struggled to pick out information in the problem on her own. This will improve as the course continues, but I'm also going to try to help her "dissect" the problem."
"I worked with the student on reviewing for his Geometry final. We worked on 30-60-90 and 45-45-90 triangles, SOH-CAH-TOA, rules for kites, rhombuses, and trapezoids, area of regular polygons, and surface area and volume of 3D solids. We went over what he should place on the notecard he can use for his final. I think he will perform well as long as he reads carefully and shows the work necessary."
"The student had her science final the following day, so we spent the session preparing. It was on the water cycle and types of natural disasters, so I quizzed her on all the material and we went over some questions. She seemed to have a very good grasp of the material by the end."
"The student and I reviewed several topics in his final exam review packet. I believe he is comfortable with the material, and I am confident his final exam results will reflect his effort this semester. It has been a pleasure working with him."
