Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We went over reading multiple-choice questions, deciphering what the question is asking, and discussed the overall nephron in relationship to the blood supply. We also talked about the hormones that are secreted and where they work as well as their actions. I sent the student some practice questions for her to use as an assessment before our next meeting."
"In today's session, he worked on addition of 3 single digits and subtraction with pictures. He did well and discovered that, in addition, if he found the 2 numbers that equaled 10, it was easier to add without making tally marks. Good for him! He matched sentences with their picture - i.e. pizza, dog, car, flowers, balloon. He enjoyed reviewing history about the Declaration of Independence. As usual, he enjoyed a game of Hangman . :-)"
"The student and I completed some informal assessments this week to determine where her instructional needs were. She correctly identifies beginning sounds. She understands rhyming. She can identify and write her numbers up to 12 and can math with pictorial representations. We read a beginning reader and she did a good job locating words out of context."
"During today's session, the student and I worked on multi-step inequalities. He did well with these today. He even remembered to distribute appropriately. He is getting ready for 8th grade math. I think he is getting closer to being ready. We are adding another session to the week so he can gain more knowledge. For the next session, we will work on slope."
"I provided homework support for the student. We worked on multiplication, division, addition and word problems. He knows his times tables slowly, so he did not need to use the number line. He wrote a sentence for each of his spelling words as well."
"We reviewed and read his high frequency and common word part cards. He mastered more. I had him read a 6th grade passage for fluency. He scored 47 words correct per minute and was at 105 wcpm for the 5th grade passage, which is great. It was more challenging than the 5th grade one, but he will improve with practice. I will have him do more spelling practice next session. I had him practice math word problems, converting decimals to fractions or mixed numbers, and 2-digit multiplication. I introduced division with decimals in the dividend and divisor."
