How can a GRE tutor help you?

The GRE, or Graduate Record Examination, is mandatory if you're planning to make an application for a graduate program. It is designed to measure your potential in graduate school based on your skills in quantitative, verbal, and analytical writing. The GRE is a critical aspect of the application process. You can achieve a score between 130 and 170 for each section, aside from the analytical writing section, which yields a 0 to 6. The exam consists of six scored sections: one analytical writing, two verbal reasoning, two quantitative reasoning, one unscored verbal or quantitative reasoning, plus one unscored identified research section. You are given three hours and 45 minutes to accomplish the test. Since the GRE is administered year-round, you probably should spend time preparing beforehand. It is wise to plan ahead of time to meet application dates. Prepare ahead of time with a personalized GRE tutor in Cedar Park, Texas.

GRE Tutoring review by Mahlena-Rae in Cedar Park, TX
We focused on reviewing Practice Test 2 on the CD. The student felt confident about the essays she wrote. She answered most of the questions in the Verbal and Quantitative sections correctly. As we reviewed the questions, she understood why the correct answers were the best choices. We reviewed strategies for exam day, including taking all the breaks, drinking water, eating snacks, and confirming answers by using the information provided.

GRE Tutoring review by Sonya in Cedar Park, TX
Today, we continued to power through math review. She had a couple of questions about her homework, and then we started going through the easy/medium math review questions from the book. She has a very strong background in math. Our main focus is on testing strategies and conventions of the exam. In addition, I'm pointing out shortcuts as we go so that she can save time on the actual test.

We spent the session working on Geometry (triangles and circles, including Pythagorean triples, finding the dimensions of circles embedded in other shapes, etc.) and probability (both independent and dependent events). The student is noticeably more comfortable with the fundamental Quantitative strategies than she was when we last met.

GRE Tutoring review by Benjamin in Cedar Park, TX
We went over the homework I assigned the student last week, she did fairly well and has a firm grasp of the mathematics. We also went over some handpicked quantitative question on combinations and permutations. I think going over the questions and their solutions helped. Then we practiced some reading comprehension which she did very well with. I assigned two essay writing sections for homework for the next session.

GRE Tutoring review by Carl in Cedar Park, TX
Today was my first lesson with the student. We began by discussing her history with the test and the things she's done to prep so far, then we looked at her most recent practice exam together. It's clear she's got a lot of raw computational skill and that her fundamental math skills are strong, but she often dives into the question without considering all the options. Occasionally, this means she ends up doing very complicated and time consuming calculations when she could be attacking the question more efficiently.
