Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"In this session, we covered various practice problems on two independent samples t test, two dependent samples t test, and a chi-square goodness of fit test. We noted null and alternative hypotheses and compared the p-value to the alpha. We also described the conclusion for each problem."
"The student and I worked on practice problems regarding ANOVA today. We started out discussing the general concept of ANOVA, and then proceeded to work through two examples. Rather than having him use his calculator just to do the whole thing at once, we worked out each problem and component by hand, since that is how he is going to be asked to do it on the test."
"The student completed the fifth tutoring session aimed at improving her understanding of statistics. During the session, I assisted her with a homework assignment pertaining to hypothesis testing. The worksheet required her to define a number of relevant terms (e.g., null hypothesis, alternative hypothesis). She was also required to provide responses to questions aimed at checking her understanding (e.g., What is the distinction between a one-tailed and two-tailed test?). She was initially asked to solve each practice problem independently. If she provided an inaccurate or incomplete response, I pointed out her errors and asked her questions aimed at guiding her toward the correct answer. After completing the assignment, we transitioned to reviewing for her upcoming final."
"The student has been covering topics in linear regression during class time. Today, we went over the coefficient of determination, and how it is related to correlation. We worked on a couple of problems that asked us to interpret this coefficient of correlation. He needed help a bit at first, and was able to explain the last problem completely on his own. I also went over how the least squares regression line is related to the equation of the coefficient of determination, and he had a good understanding."
"The student has been working hard in his statistics class, and making great progress. He relies on me to help him study and to reaffirm his skills. He mainly contacts me just before a test. He is always able to obtain a practice test that we go over. I then give him some tips on how to take it, and what to look for. He currently has an 82% in his class."
"The student is improving in her basic understanding of concepts. We were able to work through several practice problems that involved selecting different tests based on wording from the question. She is doing better at carrying out the five steps to hypothesis testing."
