Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I continued with our review in preparation for his midterms. We discussed issues he had with any of the chapter 4 homework I asked him to complete. Also, we worked on a comprehensive review of all pertinent sections in chapter 5, which were the sections covered in his class. We are going to continue with this comprehensive review during our next sessions, which will focus on a comprehensive review of those three chapters, and prepare him for an upcoming quiz that will take place this Thursday. He did all the homework I asked him to complete, and is taking more of an active role in his preparation for midterms."
"The student and I continued with our study of polygons and interior angles. We went over the difference between interior angles and exterior angles of a polygon, and how to solve one from the other. We did a few more good practice problems. They combined different-sided polygons into an irregular shape, where he needs to solve for several missing angles. He is catching on more and more each day."
"The student and I continued with the content that we started with on Monday. He needed help converting functions from standard form to vertex form, and once they were in vertex form, he had no difficulty with graph analysis. He is exam ready for that portion. As far as converting from standard to vertex form, he knew how to start the problem, but lacked understanding of what we were doing in the third step, so we went over that in detail and I saw a significant improvement in his comprehension and fluency with these types of problems within the session. I will check how much he retained and quiz him when I meet with him again on Monday, and cover any new material."
"The student and I continued working through review problems in preparation for her final exam today. Some topics covered included Venn diagram and partitions, solving computations, and finding conditional probability for independent events."
"The student and I covered a bunch of little topics related to linear equations and slope. We also reviewed the different forms for linear equations (slope-intercept, point-slope, standard, and general) and how to write each one. We also graphed from each form."
"The student and I covered a ton of concepts. We went over graphing linear equations, including how to find the intercepts and determine the solution to the equation. We covered how to find the asymptote of a nonlinear graph, along with how to determine the end behavior of the x and y values going left and right for the nonlinear graph. He worked through an assignment to find the rate of change for a linear and nonlinear line on a graph. Lastly, we covered some algebra equations requiring him to solve for a variable x. He should be very happy with his progress, as he is learning a lot of material very quickly. In the next session, we plan on going over the remaining concepts and problems that will be on his upcoming test."
