Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We worked on the performance assessment math homework she had. We also focused on rounding decimals, which is a skill she proved she has mastered! We also did adding decimals and did division math facts."
"We worked on word problems that involved multiple steps of addition or subtraction and ended the session with additional multiplication/division problems. She has progressed well and feels more confident with her proficiency in multiplication and division."
"We worked on: the student's homework. Included missing numbers on a number line. Grows: After using a dinosaur to assist in counting down a number line to figure out a missing number, he became more engaged. It still seemed challenging for him. I then reversed the order in which we approached the order. I had him start at a point with the dinosaur and have him jump 2, 3, 5, and then 10 ahead to play on his strength of adding quickly/counting on. I covered the numbers after he got to each point and then had him tell me what numbers were missing and how he knew. Although he picked up that asking "how do you know that?" was challenging he was able to work through tasks and verbalize his reasoning (as he began just guessing). Grows: He is still working on number lines and understanding the structure of it. He is still working on writing out answers. He can do mental math to figure out problems but avoids writing out problems and answers."
"We worked with estimation, rounding, and adding for mathematics and vocabulary study for reading. Her only struggles were expressing frustration with showing work when faced with a different format than she was accustomed to. She was very positive overall toward the work and 3rd grade so far. We covered rewriting problems to visualize the work rather than attempting to perform tasks mentally. The student does not have extra practice. We worked directly with schoolwork."
"With Student A, we worked on counting by 10s, subtraction with borrowing, identifying coins, and counting money. With Student B, we worked on evaluating expressions with order of operations. With Student C, we worked on adding and subtracting positive and negative fractions and decimals, and finding common denominators."
"With student one, we went over her book report and made changes to it. We also did some critical thinking exercises. In math, we worked on various topics including graphing on a coordinate graph. With student two, we also went over her book report and worked on turning run-on sentences into shorter complete sentences. We also did some wrap-up questions for them. In Math, we worked on representing multiplication and division problems with arrays. We also reviewed multi-digit subtraction with regrouping."
