Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During today's session, the student and I reviewed large-order numbers, formal/informal commands, and assorted vocabulary. I have issued instructions for him to copy all of his future vocabulary lists into a dual-columned, bilingual steno pad to solidify orthography and facilitate memorization. I have noticed that he sometimes has memorized a partially incorrect pronunciation of a Spanish word, which in turn affects his phonetic spelling. Accordingly, I have begun to review vocabulary lists word by word to ensure that he is receiving the correct pronunciations. He and I will resume grammar studies once he begins classes the week after next."
"We went over the uses of direct and indirect object pronouns, used by themselves and together. I gave the student several practice sentences. We will continue with additional review and discussion."
"The student has been improving with every lesson. Monday we went over the concepts from chapter one. We also learned the conjugation for -AR verbs which will be an important building block as he moves forward."
"Using the Descubre text , we continued working on formal and informal greetings , as well as a variety of phrases to use in conversations. The student created his own conversations in Spanish based on viewing pictures and then we worked on the alphabet, pronunciation, and spelling. We began working on definite and indefinite articles , including singular and plural."
"Today the student and I continued practicing the preterite tense. She completed exercises where she conjugated in the preterite. These exercises included filling in the blank, translating sentences from English to Spanish, and short answer questions. She and I then went over the conjugations and used of the imperfect, and she practiced some fill in the blank exercises. She did great!"
"The student had a lot of homework tonight, and we reviewed all the work she has missed in the workbook. We also recorded the new text in the chapter, answered all the questions from the Q & A, and did some translation of the sentences. Again, I spoke mostly Chinese to her throughout the session; she hasn't quite used to it yet, but she's gradually getting better. At the end, we did the dictation exercises in the book, and she was pretty good at it."
