Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, the student and I reviewed limits at infinity and also looked at derivatives and tangent lines. He just wanted a brief review of how to solve some of the more difficult limits at infinity, so we did some practice problems. We then talked about how we can bring the two points on a secant line infinitely close together in order to form a tangent line. I explained how to work with the limit definition for derivatives and we did some practice problems out of the packet that he brought."
"Continuing from last week, we worked through part of another practice exam. The problems covered all of the topics he has learned so far (differentiation, integration, etc.). The rest of the problems he is prepared to solve on his own."
"The student's last challenge of the year will be his AP exam, so today we began looking at AP practice problems. He demonstrated his progress over this semester, getting most of the problems with little help, many with no help at all. Next time we will move on to the more challenging free-response questions."
"The student is preparing for the AP Calculus test so we looked at a variety of practice problems from old tests that pertained to the areas that he found most difficult. We reviewed area between curves, volumes of revolution, the disc method, the washer method, and the cross sectional area method. We went over average rate of change, average value, total displacement, and how to formulate g(x) given g'(x)."
"We reviewed applications of integrals including volumes and work. We covered integration via the disk and shell method. The student was able to evaluate integrals well, but needed help setting up the integrals."
"The student and I went over implicit differentiation and problems involving word problems. We dealt with systems of equations and solving for slopes of tangent lines. She is doing well and just need some things cleared up."
