Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered rate of change problems involving graphing, determining units, time, and distance. The student needed help with determining why the units were what they were, so I assisted in canceling like terms to produce a viable answer."
"Today we reviewed for the student's test on Thursday. We first went over problems involving finding erroneous solutions and how to interpret the solutions. Then we moved on to the Pythagorean theorem and how to check for solutions that don't make geometric sense. Finally, we reviewed the distance formula and the midpoint formula. The student was able to understand the concepts by the end of the session and was able to solve most of the problems, but he was struggling a bit remembering his factoring rules. He might want to review factoring before the test, as well as go over some practice problems in the book. Good luck! You're almost done!"
"Today the student and I finished his review. He solved system of equations via graphing, simplified radicals, solved system of equations by substitution, solved system of equations by elimination, factored out the greatest common factor, factored trinomials, we covered imaginary numbers, and the quadratic formula. I told him we will have a quiz on Friday over everything we have done thus far, and then more problems."
"Today's session focused on regression models. We worked through some problems from the student's HW assignment. The problems required finding the parameters of the regression models using the summary data."
"We reviewed for the student's Geometry final. We focused on geometric means related to triangles, finding arc and chord lengths in circles, and finding area and volume of polygons. The student seems to have a firm grasp of the content; he just needed to sort everything out so he knew what to do when. The student grew more confident as the session progressed. I suggested that the student write out formulas used to solve problems the next time he completes a study guide so when he reviews for his test he has the formulas in front of him."
"Today's session was dedicated to completing the student's final exam review packets. We completed trigonometry, surface area/volume of 3D shapes, and properties of lines tangent to circles exercises. The student did well with the trigonometry problems and the volume/surface area calculations. We discussed taking your time when determining which formula to use and making sure the correct side lengths are being used. The exercises based on tangent lines were the most difficult for the student, so after completing each problem we went back reviewed the strategies we used. The student did much better than the first time we reviewed this type of material, and was solving the exercises with a lot more confidence. He plans to read through and study the review packet before the exam to help refresh him on the concepts."
