We went over sight words and read a book today. I'm happy that he really enjoyed the book. I've learned that it makes him more comfortable when I read with him, so I'll usually read 3 pages and then he reads 3 pages. He did well on his old set of sight words. We need to practice his new set more which includes much longer words.

We read the student's book of the day and reviewed the reading response #1 assignment, which was to write 5 sentences to summarize the book. He had trouble spelling some words but was able to think of sentences with appropriate sentence structure on his own. We reviewed his sight words for the week, including spelling and definition. We reviewed sentences for 3 of the sight words for his homework assignment. Then we practiced spelling the words in conditions similar to the quiz. His reading level has improved to level D and he showed much enthusiasm for the lesson today.

English Grammar and Syntax Tutoring review by Morgan in Duluth, GA
We covered two topics. The first was the use of procatalepsis. The student was at first confused by how to do this, but we worked through some examples and an essay together. With practice, she got better at it and was able to successfully incorporate it into an essay. The second topic was Romeo and Juliet. She had to write an essay where she predicted what would happen in the story based on a wordle (animal filled with words used in the segment she was assigned to). She needed help with providing evidence for her statements. This is something we will continue to work on. It should be noted it's a difficulty that many writers struggle with in essay writing. Next session we want to cover graphing in her algebra course.
