Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered graphing quadratics using a table, describing transformations of graphs, and graphing using a description. We also looked at finding the axis of symmetry, vertex, y-intercept and opening direction in standard form. We found minimum/maximum and domain and range. Lastly, we found roots by factoring."
"She is doing really well with probability and fractions and percentages. We likened percentages to money and that helped a lot. I am encouraging her to get more comfortable doing some problems in her head so she can use the calculator for bigger things but not all calculations. I have asked her to practice dependent events with cereal so she gets some more practice in before her test on Monday or Tuesday."
"We covered graphing Quadratic Functions. We worked on putting them in standard form and finding the vertex and axis of symmetry of a parabola. He found it hard remembered what the axis of symmetry was, but when we started relating things to real life he seemed to grasp concepts. Before leaving, he was able to successfully review everything we covered and seemed confident in his learning. He definitely needs more practice on this concept, and we will move on to find the x-intercepts of a parabola. I gave him a few practice problems that we will go over next session in addition to his classwork. I feel he has a better understanding of the material, and we will continue to work on quadratic functions and their vastness."
"We reviewed problems from a recent test that the student had points taken off for one reason or another. We then spent the majority of the time working on a version of the bonus question from the test. Given a 75% confidence interval, mean, and sample size, we back-calculated the standard deviation, and then calculated a 95% CI with that information."
"We covered finding the vertex, axis of symmetry, y-intercept, value of min/ max, and graphing of quadratic functions. The student is struggling with addition and subtraction and multiplication of positive and negative numbers, so I am going to put together a number of practice problems for us to go over in our next session. She still has a great attitude toward learning the math problems we work on."
"He is always a bright student and a pleasure to work with. He is very focused and motivated to do well in his studies and a great inspiration to me as well. We reviewed algebra for half the time and physical science for the other half of the time to prepare for his upcoming algebra quiz (7.4-7.5) and chapter 1 exam in physical sciences. We did plenty of practice problems and reviewed all the material we could find. I am confident he will do well!"
