The student had a test that covered exponential and logarithmic functions, solving logs, and compounded interest. She had a few worksheets with practice problems. Graphing was relatively straight forward for her but the solving logs and word problems were the most difficult. We worked through many of the problems on the worksheet and by the end of the review, she was comfortable with most of the types of questions. She still had a little bit of trouble with some of the more tricky problems but planned on reviewing the material more and doing more practice problems prior to the test.

We will meet again next Wednesday.

In the remaining time, I used a set of flashcards I created, each with multiplication from 2 to 12, to test how many he knew immediately and which ones he struggled on. Sometimes he counted too high/low or switched numbers around. I gave him the cards to practice with and try again with them next time

The student and I went over number lines, plotting coordinates, absolute value, subtracting negative numbers, and subtracting bigger numbers from smaller numbers. The student has a tendency to skip steps and not fully analyze what questions are asking, but as we went over specific drills she seemed to pick up what steps she should be following for different kinds of problems. At our next session, I want to introduce specific strategies that she can use to tackle different kinds of problems. I'll also be bringing a variety of materials that we can use to practice these new strategies.
