Before transferring to UIC I attended Augustana College and pursued degrees in physics and environmental studies. Throughout my youth I coached a swim team and have always gained an immense satisfaction from helping others. Tutoring is a win-win situation for both parties. The student becomes fluent and develops interest in a subject they have struggled with in the past and I gain from helping them improve and succeed. I like to make learning fun and strive to make the information relatable to my students. This way we can become excited about the subjects which makes learning that much easier. My role as a teacher is to provide the information each individual student needs, at the right time, to succeed.I am also a chess player, a cello player, and an ultimate frisbee player. I graduated from a liberal arts college (Carleton, near Minneapolis), which means that I experienced a tradition that values student perspectives and seeks to bring each individual to a conceptual space where (s)he can achieve by objective standards.I also believe very strongly that a teacher's primary obligation is for the safety and welfare of his/her students. In high school, I participated in an ENL program (English as a New Language) which sparked my love for tutoring. I went to an elementary school and help students (Grades K-6) with their homework in reading, math science, etc. I became close with many of the children and watched them grow as students and as people throughout my four years of being there. I wanted to continue tutoring in college which lead me to join a club at Villanova called RUIBAL. Through RUIBAL I was able to again help younger children with their homework, specifically with their reading. Through zoom, I would sit and read with the students, helping them with big words and understanding the story's main idea. While I can tutor in many subjects, I am drawn to the subjects of English (specifically reading comprehension)and Science and helping with test prep. I have also recently become EMT certified so I have fresh knowledge of the subject and how to pass the exam.
