Session Summaries by GMAT Tutors

GMAT Tutoring review by Jonathan in Bartlett, TN
The student and I dug right into sentence correction today, covering all verb and pronoun issues, as well as misplaced modifiers. I assigned SC 1, 1s, 2, and 3 for homework. Next session, we will finish sentence correction, starting with comparisons, before we move on to critical reasoning.

GMAT Tutoring review by Alex in Bartlett, TN
Certainly, we spent the vast majority of today on just a few problems, but we learned how to attack those factorial problems quicker, we gained more insight into data sufficiency (and rate problems), and we really dug into combination/ permutation theory. Comb/ perm isn't a huge part of the exam, but will definitely factor in on some of the 650+ level questions.

GMAT Tutoring review by Ammon in Bartlett, TN
Today we spent the first hour going over the final sentence correction questions in the diagnostic test. The student did very well with these. Her strategy for finding the right answer was excellent. During the second hour, we worked on the first questions from the quantitative sections. She answered almost all of them correctly, and she did so very quickly! She should start timing herself on these questions so she can make sure she has enough time. She should also focus on the more difficult questions, since she is likely to get all of the easy questions right. For the last hour, we focused on critical reasoning and reading comprehension. She did great with summarizing arguments and identifying the point of the task. She will need to read a little bit faster if she wants to finish the verbal in the allotted time, so she should start timing herself on the verbal section as well.

GMAT Tutoring review by Phoebe in Bartlett, TN
The student is taking her test on Thursday. Her homework revolved around probability and combinatorics, and she had a few questions that we reviewed; she's beginning to get a handle on the concepts! We briefly looked at integrated reasoning, and discussed how to differentiate answer choices in two column question types. I also mentioned that if a math based question is confusing, try using real numbers or substituting it with more familiar language.

GMAT Tutoring review by Carl in Bartlett, TN
The student has been progressing steadily through the questions in the prep book. We took a look at a couple of math questions that gave him trouble, then turned our attention to Reading Comprehension. We went through again the overall way to read these passages, the kinds of notes useful to take, and the way to vet answer choices. He's going to keep plunging on through those questions in sets of ten this week and we'll meet again to discuss them next week.

GMAT Tutoring review by Sean in Bartlett, TN
I introduced algebra, and we went over linear equations. I asked the student to finish the first section of the practice set I sent her ("translation and linear equations"). We will begin next lesson with quadratic equations.
