A lot of Newman projections, drawing Newman projections, energy diagrams, rating conformations based on stability, eclipsed vs. staggered, gauche and fully eclipsed. "The student and I got off to a strong start discussing SN2 reactions. She had a great knowledge of the concept coming into the session, and just needed some clarification and examples that she felt were missing from her normal class. In addition, we also talked about elimination reactions, and plan on going more over the material in another session."
"The student and I had a good session. She is currently working to better understand Newton projections and other forms of 3D representations of organic molecules. We did several Newton projection practice problems, and talked about the potential energies of different conformations. We then talked about cyclohexane conformations and how to write and keep track of different functional groups on chair and boat conformations. "
"The student and I met to cover some topics he had questions on relating to his upcoming test. These were mostly concepts related to MO theory and orbital splitting and hybridization. We went over some of the problems in the book and I tried to give a little more context to the questions to explain them. We also worked on acid/base chemistry and some of the few concepts he had on this chapter."
"The student and I met today to discuss problems that she had from her last test. We went over her test questions involving topics such as acid base chemistry, resonance structures, isomerization, and IUPAC naming. We will continue to work with these concepts in the future to help her establish a good base of knowledge with which we can build up to more complex concepts."
