Glenview, IL Microbiology tutoring
The student has a test on capacitors and circuits, so we went over some practice problems dealing with those, as well as some more thermodynamics problems that also might be on her test. She did very well on all of the problems!

The student has a test on Monday and has finals coming up. We covered atomic emissions spectra, the Bohr model, Rydberg's constant, and calculations involving the energy of a photon using Planck's constant. He was having some trouble getting the variables straight, so we worked on that. We covered how to identify which variable he needed to solve for based on the units given to him. He made some simple computational errors that would lose him valuable points on his exam, so I advised him again to get some rest. We did some more difficult problems together as well, covering electron configuration and how to identify proper electron configuration for "trickier" elements like chromium, and for ions like manganese and iron.

The student has a test on Monday on similar material that we covered on Thursday, but the test is more in depth. We covered the more difficult topics presented in the genetics chapter, including codominance, incomplete dominance, sex-linked traits, and pedigrees. We talked about the difference between codominance having two dominant traits that are both displayed if present, and incomplete dominance being on a gradient scale. For incomplete dominance, this means if the colors range from yellow to white, a heterozygous individual will be cream. We also discussed sex-linked traits, and how females are less likely to get X linked traits since they have two X chromosomes. We also discussed pedigrees, how to tell an individual's genetics from their parents, and how to follow a recessive trait down the tree.

The student has a test on Tuesday. It covers atomic formulas, types of reactions, and trends of the periodic table. We went over those things and reviewed a lab on periodic trends. We discussed important places in the reference table to look for information, as well as how to use the reference table to assist on questions she wasn't positive of the answer for. Overall, she's very bright and quick and grasps concepts well once they are explained to her.

The student has a test this Thursday, so we spent the session reviewing old homework assignments. The test will cover the conservation of energy and all equations that go along with it. He seems to have a pretty good grasp on the subject, so I feel confident that he will do well on the exam.

The student has a test this Tuesday, so we worked through practice problems that have given her trouble in the past in order to review for this test on forces. For the most part, she knew what she had to do, with me only nudging her in the right direction. She did struggle on one or two problems that required nontraditional or more elaborate thinking, but with explanation and guidance, she worked through them. Once the equations were set up, she had no problem manipulating them. She requested that we meet tomorrow evening to finish working through problems and answer any last-minute questions before her test.
