Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During this session I asked the student about her activities this past weekend and her plans for next weekend. She was able to transition from the past tense to the future tense well. After that I had her continue to work on "por vs para" with a couple of worksheets. While working on these worksheets she found that she had difficulty with three of the rules under this topic. I told her that I would bring exercises for her to practice, and further see the difference between these three rules to the next session. For homework I asked her to write 6 sentences using "por" and 4 sentences using "para.""
"We went over more subjunctive and worked on conjugation in sentences. We also specifically worked on food, nutrition, diet, and verb vocabulary. The student has a great attitude and has figured out how to conjugate in the subjunctive. Next session, we will be working on verbs and when to use subjunctive vs indicative."
"In this session, we covered the use of various prepositions, such as "to" "at" "by" and "in" in the context of expressing location or arrival at a particular place. We also finished covering the difference between "will" and "would" and when to use either, as opposed to present tense. Along these lines, I introduced her to using "if" in a conditional clause, along with "would." I left her with a simple homework assignment, to write down five sentences that use "would" and five that use "will," and try to use the propositions we covered as well. She understood the concepts covered but needs to practice on her own as well, which is why I think basic homework assignments will help her improve along with the flashcards."
"We went over the subject pronouns, then reviewed conjugating regular verbs. We went through a couple of practice sheets, and he did really well. He has homework to practice conjugating verbs in simple sentences. Next session, we will cover irregular verbs."
"We went over travel vocabulary, present infinite verbs, irregular present verbs, and days of the week vocab. The students will double check what the preferred schedule is when school starts next month, and we will schedule accordingly."
"We went through more of the diagnostic questions, and the student has been looking at lots of topics in grammar. I gave him a packet by email the began to look at together that looks at two very common verbs: "ser" and "ir" as well as -ar verbs in the present. He asked for homework and I encouraged him to work through as much of this packet as he is able. We went through a good part of the "ser" material, which reinforced the work we did together during our last session. A win for this session is that he retained some of the "ser" conjugations from last time and he let me know he wanted homework. I had planned to give him an assignment, but it was great to see him take the initiative and let me know what works best for his learning style."
