Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, the student and I reviewed an exam on converting fractions to decimals and percentages. As noted in previous sessions, she would benefit from writing down every step of the question (including multiplication and division steps). Sh also needs to remember to place the decimal when doing long division before calculating the answer. She also struggled with discounted rates. I went over a four-step process on how to do these questions. I left her with another study guide to tackle the types of problems we went over today."
"The student and I talked about approximation methods for integrals. He had no problems with the calculations but needed some help understanding where the formulas came from. I was able to go through some derivations of said equations, and he had a better appreciation for the utility of the approximation methods."
"I first had the student complete questions from a worksheet I had written, one at a time very slowly, and to check that he copied down the correct terms with correct signs. He then worked one line at a time and carefully checked his work. He still made mistakes but found all of them except one. He completed about 5 questions perfectly. This is a breakthrough, but we still need to work and extend this process to other question topics. It may take weeks of practice, but we need to get these extra check steps into his computation process to eliminate the simple errors he tends to make. We then covered chapter 10 in his workbook on log function transformations, vertical and horizontal shifts, stretches and reflections etc."
"This session I worked with the student to review for a test that she had the next day. We worked through various problem types involving skills such as: combining like terms, adding and subtracting integers, using order of operations, distributive, commutative and associative properties. Overall, she is showing progress in all of these areas. She demonstrates a solid understanding of what can and can't be done."
"The student and I worked on solving absolute value inequalities in addition to graphing them. I noticed that she understood the process."
"The student had two assignments to work on. One was a review of last week's material with solving systems of equations in which there were two equations and two unknowns. The second was new material with three equations and three unknowns. She was able to solve most of them without much trouble and was even able to get the hardest type of problem correct."
