"The student and I started by going over the two assignments from his Tuesday folder last week. We did some sample questions that were similar to one of the assignments that focused on identifying simple/complete subject and simple/complete predicate. He said that he is working on division in math, so we continued to work on long division with multiple digits. He is doing an awesome job with division, and I think that it is awesome that he has confidence in his abilities! We also continued to work on multiplication tables and added 6 and 7 factors to the numbers that we had already been working on. I can see the memorization occurring for some of the higher facts, but he does generally rely on computation for many of the more challenging number pairs."
"The student and I worked on estimation and multiple digit addition. She is still working on basic addition strategies, so this activity was a bit challenging for her. Thus, after completing her homework we played a basic addition game. This game required her to construct and deconstruct numbers adding up to 10. We will continue to play this game to strengthen her basic addition strategies and skills."
"The student and I worked on her homework. She had to multiply mixed numbers with fractions which she hadn't done before. After a couple of problems, she was able to understand. We then took her final answer of improper fractions and made them into mixed numbers. She still isn't 100% confident in her multiplication skills, but she is continuing to grow in multiplication."
"The student and I worked on his review package for his next exam. We will review more topics dealing with the multiplication of whole numbers and decimals, the area of a rectangle, expanded notation, and discount/sale problems tomorrow."
"The student and I worked on metric conversions and understanding decimal places. We worked through three homework assignments. He struggled to understand decimal placements and how they move in the beginning, but he grasped it pretty well by the end of the session. This is a common topic in both math and science for him right now, so in the coming sessions, I will continue to work on place value with him. He still has fast fact homework. As usual, he did wonderful during the extended session."
"The student and I worked on remediation of his algebra skills. We worked on order of operations, distributive properties, mental math, using variables to write expressions, and various shortcuts. He has a solid base, and I'm excited to be working with him."
