"In this lesson, we went over the topics for the student's exam that she found a bit problematic. I re-explained the concept, and then we found practice problems from the corresponding section of the textbook, and then I created my own example problems specifically for areas of the topic that were giving her the most trouble. We went through logarithmic differentiation, implicit differentiation, inverse trig functions and lots of chain rule. At the end, the student took notes on the step by step procedure to solve each type of problem."
"We went over a story problem that involved creating a layout of a garden using scale factors. It involved solving simple algebraic equations such as finding the radius of a circle when given the area."
"I introduced the student to multivariable equation, and how to simplify such equations. We worked on slope-interface format and extract slope and intercept of a function. We worked on the exponents. We studied multiply and exponents of exponents rules. We also worked through Monomials."
"The student and I are continuing to work on long division. We are now up to 4-digit numbers divided by 2-digit numbers. She is getting much stronger at her rounding and estimation skills. We are currently on chapter 37, so she has six chapters after this one left to complete before we can start on 5th grade material."
"We reviewed an old test. Her drawings are spot-on, and that's always a great place to start! It shows that she has at least a basic level of reading comprehension within a math setting. I think she may be getting confused with translating the words into math calculations and steps. It will help in these multistep word problems to think what do I know, what do I need to know, and how can I get there, using math. This skill will be very beneficial for Algebra and will definitely improve with practice and age. I think she is getting more comfortable with it already."
"The student has a difficult time with basic math. We are meeting again on Wednesday and Thursday to go over a packet. I asked that he try to complete as much of the packet as possible without spending too much time on the problems. This way we will be in a better spot to go over problem areas on Wednesday."
