Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Worked on bonding structure and identifying shapes. Continued Lewis dot diagrams and bonding rules. Discussed colleges and goals, including basic plan for reach schools and safety schools."
"We worked on preparing the student for her upcoming chemistry exam. We focused primarily on Boyle's law, Charles' law, Gay-Lussac's law, and the combined gas law."
"Today, we began covering solutions and calculations involving solutions. We practiced percent by weight, molarity, molality, dilutions, and freezing point depression and boiling point elevation."
"Tonight, the student and I continued our discussion of enthalpy, specifically focusing on calculating the enthalpy of a reaction using bond dissociation energies. We plan to move on to liquids for our next session. As always, I look forward to working with him again soon!"
"We continued our discussion on VSEPR shapes and angles, Lewis structure, and resonance structure. I gave the student my favorite solubility rules chart and had an example or two used. Packing Factor was covered as well. After most of our work was done, we talked about creating two reference sheets (table of contents & equation sheet). As a part of organizational processing, I encouraged her to begin reviewing the material in her textbook before her teacher lectures the material, thereby giving her a leg up in the material and decreasing the amount of study time necessary. Increasing her current level of organization on the info resources will prepare her for college. Starting some of these steps now gives her plenty of time to create habits around these processes."
"We continued reviewing a worksheet of organic chemistry questions today. We went over some more IUPAC naming rules. We also covered some structural rules in reference to cis- and trans- molecules."
