Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we read from various books. I showed the student how to start combining letters so he avoids sounding out every individual letter."
"Student read two books to tutor in a clear and loud voice. Student is improving in sounding out the words. Student was then asked a summary of both books."
"The session was a good one. We continue our focus on reading fluency, vocabulary and reading comprehension. The student has demonstrated improvement with fluency and her phonetic abilities."
"The student and I reviewed Act 4 of Julius Caesar using a character rubric and reading comprehension questions. The character rubric was helpful in making the flaws and human characteristics of Shakespeare's protagonists more real. It also helped with plot summary; it is necessary to list not only the thoughts and words of characters but also the actions. I believe she found this to be a helpful exercise in helping to understand more subtle interpretation. She then did some reading excerpts with comprehension questions following. Finally, we read through act 4 together and broke down plot summary."
"The student and I reviewed all words that he has been having a hard time to decode. He was able to read a majority of the word he is still having trouble with the words ending in ay, or with the ou sound. The student then read me most of the stories in his reader. He has set a goal to read chapter books soon."
"The student and I reviewed her current class assignments, including a history course that will demand writing. She remains on top of all classes, including English. We spent the other half of the session discussing ACT prep, and started on another guide book to proceed through in advance of her ultimately taking the test next January."
