Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student studied for an upcoming test on Friday. This session was heavily on properties of polygons. We worked on solving for the sum of interior angles, exterior angles, individual exterior and individual exterior angles given a certain polygon. We also used properties of angles to find various angles given a picture."
"During today's writing session I worked with the student to develop a list of writing strategies for him to study & refer to when writing an essay for school or ISEE practice. He came up with the majority of topics in the list on his own and is becoming more adept at evaluating his own work."
"The student and I worked on her homework today. Out of about 40 problems, we got half done in an hour and a half. We were working on prime numbers, composite numbers, factoring, and prime factorizations. She has some trouble remembering her multiplication tables, so I tried giving her some easy ways to remember how to multiply and divide numbers. I also tried to explain exponents to her while working on prime factorizations."
"We began by reviewing the vocabulary flashcards we created on Tuesday. She had indeed learned about 50% of them (15 total so far), but by the end of today I believe she had mastered all of them. We spent the majority of the session going through practice math problems together, reviewing principles along the way (e.g. proportionality problems, vertical angles). I assigned her roughly 40 practice problems, as well as 1 essay, for homework."
"The student is doing very well. She is remembering a lot of the concepts I have taught her, and will probably just need to keep up her practice and review independently. Her confidence has also grown, and I am sure that will play a huge part in succeeding on the ISEE exam."
"We went over and wrote a quick sort algorithm today. I was very encouraged by the student's performance today. He seems to be much more comfortable with programming than he was just a few weeks ago."
