"Reviewed course packet in preparation for exam. Discussed practice problems in dilutions, molarity, and solubility. Did a preview of osmosis - the next topic in chemistry."
"We worked on balancing chemical formulas and %yield for chemistry. We reviewed the student's remaining physics homework."
"The student was reviewing chemistry. She said she did really well on the quiz recently on thermochemistry. She missed a day, so she was a little confused on how to calculate the energy of phase changes. It's really pretty simple (you just multiply the amount in mass or moles by the latent heat). It gets a little more complicated when you have temperature changes and phase changes. I helped her understand the graph of temperature vs heat added and explained why the temperature stays constant during a phase change. After that, she used the graph to help her figure out which equations to use in temp/phase change calculations. We went over an old worksheet and then moved on to the new worksheet that's due tomorrow. She got them all right without much help from me. The only thing that tripped her up a little was getting caught up in dimensional analysis. I suggested she just use the formulas, and just write in the units. That way you can double check that the units work, but the formula tells you where to put everything. She seemed to like that way better, so hopefully that helps for her next test."
