Today the student and I worked on rhyming words again by playing rhyming bingo. He is becoming very familiar with it and is able to say the words that rhyme with the words on the cards. He has been practicing his sight words while I 'm not there and has been able to read 78 in two minutes. He was very proud of himself. He was able to read Polar Bear Polar Bear to me with a little help reading the animal names. He played the ninja app and was able to recognize about 20 sight words. He enjoys playing the game on the tablet. I left him two new books read practice reading over the weekend. Next week we are going to practice reading as many books as he is interested in.

Today, we continued reading The Hobbit together. We finished the first chapter, and I had the student write a summary of the chapter. We also went over the paragraph she had written about the David Foster Wallace speech and made some adjustments to improve clarity and fix grammar mistakes. Overall, I'm seeing a big improvement in her writing clarity and style. For Thursday, she is going to read Chapter 2 of The Hobbit and take notes, both on plot and on relevant themes/symbols/foreshadowing/character traits that she notices, and then I've also asked her to write a plot summary for the chapter. Her reading comprehension is good, but the main challenge I notice she has is taking the time to pause and write down notes on relevant points while she is reading. This is something I've been prompting her to do while we've been reading during our sessions, and I've asked her to pay special attention to this while reading on her own.
