The student and I focused on the science section of the ACT during this session.  At this point, I believe she has improved in the math section.  We spent most of our time going over the science section that she had done in preparation, and I helped her with general strategy.  We spent the latter half of the session doing science questions together, walking through the steps of the strategy to get to the correct answer.  For our final session before she takes the test, I've asked her to do another science section, and then to supplement that with as much other science work as she has time for.

Today's session was focused on learning the student's characters for Chinese class.  At the beginning of his next session, he will have a quiz that will test his ability to use the characters to form sentences correctly.  He will also be expected to correctly identify his vocabulary words as well as translate.

The student's newest topic is implicit differentiation. We went through several homework problems to get lots of practice. We picked out some of the harder problems to make sure he was comfortable with the topic. These problems also helped reinforce the topics of product rule, power rule, and trig differentials. The student is doing well, he just needs to make sure he writes out all the steps and does not forget to follow the notation to the end of the problem.

Today the student and I continued practicing preterite and imperfect. I bought a book that we could practice with and made some flash cards for her for all of the irregulars in the preterite tense. The student is improving with her Spanish, though vocabulary could still use some practice.

The student and I continued working together on her consumer confidence presentation, focusing on interpreting the data in the CCI release from March 29. We analyzed the numbers looking at graphs of CCI both monthly and yearly since 1995 and discussed the historic and economic reasons for its trends. I then had her rehearse her presentation for me and gave her advice on what to go into more depth in.
