"We went over solving cubic polynomials and inequalities and absolute values. We went well and she was good at it, but sometimes she makes tiny mistakes, which I recommended she practice on by doing more of them. It went well!"
"We went over the student's homework, which covered derivatives. His calculus background looked solid to me; I let him solve the majority of his homework problems without stepping in, because he understood the concepts. I showed him how to deal with square roots and negative powers and how to re-write his derivatives so that, as his teacher mentioned, his answers do not contain negative powers. He has a test coming up next week, so we'll just make sure to have a review session next time and make sure he's ready to get 90 and beyond!"
"We went through finding rate of change, continuous, and discontinuous function and derivative. Student had brought her own review material from her exams. I explained to her the concepts. She seemed to have understood the session."
"We worked on a couple of integration problems. He needed a reminder on what some trig integrals were. I wrote him a sheet containing general trig integrals that will be useful on his homework. We also proved whether some series were convergent or divergent using a variety of tests."
"We worked on an old released test. This time, the student had to come up with the formulas and concepts without help. This proved a challenge, but forced him to think independently, as he will have to for his test Thursday. We will be meeting again Tuesday night."
"We worked on homework problems about evaluating limits with L'Hopital's rule and using Rolle's theorem. The student has become comfortable applying various derivative rules! The only thing she struggled with today was minor arithmetic/simplifying mistakes, which are probably because she's already had a long calculus. She is progressing really well."
