Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Concepts: Unit conversion, conversion factors, unit relationships, how to set up a problem Struggling with: Starting a problem and setting up a plan to solve it Attitude: Positive and motivated. Strategies/Study skills: Set up the Want, Have, and How from the question stem Scores/Grades: She did well on her mastering chemistry homework. Concerns/Wins: She. was great to work with. She verbalized when she had difficulties, and expressed when she felt she could take on a problem herself."
"During our second session, he and I covered highlights from last week's lab. I was very pleased to hear that, not only did he receive a 100% on his worksheet, but that the TA directed other students in the class to him for extra help. Rather than simply working through the questions in his worksheet, we discussed the topics at hand and their implications. I believe this reinforced critical concepts that helped him excel. The majority of this week's lab is based on laboratory analytics. Because we did not have access to these resources, he and I went step-by-step through the procedures to make sure that he is well prepared for the lab itself. We spent considerable time discussing both quantitative and qualitative results for the questions in the worksheet. Hopefully this will reinforce a more holistic understanding of this week's lab."
"During our session, the student and I went over the end of chapter reviews questions he was assigned for homework. He seems to be having a great deal of trouble retaining the information. I have been reviewing the concepts at the start of the session, but he is not quite able to make the connections at some points. I will have to keep reviewing concepts and drilling techniques that will help him in the future."
"During the first session with her we started off by reviewing her PowerPoints about retinal reception, the eye, basal ganglia, visceral innervation, and motor reflexes. We focused most of the time on specific sections that she had a hard time understanding. She had a good background understanding of the topics at hand, but needed help solidifying it. We will continue to meet and review weekly."
"During the session, we went over the chapter on atoms. We discussed the main concepts that involve atoms, such as subatomic particles, isotopes, and valence electrons. The student was a quick learner and was very receptive of techniques and tips given during the session. He made great progress during the session and seemed to grasp the material to a greater extent than before tutoring. At the end of the session, we did a review of the material, and I was able to witness his new understanding and mastering of the material covered. He was very satisfied with the tutoring and said he would like me to come over next week to continue working on more chemistry concepts."
"During this session the student worked on preparing for upcoming math and chemistry tests. In math the student was looking at working with solving a system of equations. She showed a strong understanding of the material and seemed to feel confident about the material after the session. For the chemistry material the student was studying orbitals and quantum numbers. She showed a strong understanding of the material."
