Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, she and I covered the cell membrane and structures in more detail. From our last session, she has made even more improvement! Her quiz grades have improved, with a score of 98%! We thoroughly went over the cell membrane, diffusion: passive versus facilitated versus osmosis, and the effects of osmosis. We also covered membrane receptors, carriers and signaling, as well as it relevance in biological systems, human and plant. To support the learning, I utilized videos and simple hand-drawn diagrams to reinforce the concepts. She proactively did extra worksheets for study material, which I can tell has paid off and admitted to spending more time studying. She is definitely confident and is even gaining in confidence! Excellent session overall."
"Today, we covered the skeletal system and its components. We reviewed the different types of joints and examples of each of them. I will make a practice test for the student and will email it during the week to review during the next session."
"Today, we prepared for a Biology chapter test that she has tomorrow. Topics included protein function, as well as the processes of transcription and translation. Once we wrote out all of the answers to questions on her study guide, I could tell that she was feeling more confident about the material. At the end of the session, we also had time to briefly review parts of speech for her English final next week. I gave her a few sentences to label, and she did a great job of identifying each word correctly as a part of speech."
"Together, we reviewed cell biology from the packet that was given to complete at home as homework. Students have different teachers, but the same curriculum, and they're at the same level. The goal is to help them help each other and use me as a resource with all the tips and tricks they need to remember material. They are both enthusiastic, responsive, and motivated. Should they come across any questions or problems, I provided them with my number to call or text. It was pleasure to meet them both along with their family."
"Tonight we covered information for the student's biology test tomorrow. We focused on carbohydrates and proteins, and used practice problems he had in order to prepare for the test. He seems to know the material pretty well, so in addition to reviewing some concepts, we mainly worked on skills for taking the test. This included identifying right from the start the kind of molecule and its building blocks that the question discussed, using examples to clarify answer options that he is unsure about, and eliminating answers based on incorrect information (even if he doesn't necessarily know the correct answer). I think he will do well on tomorrow's test if he takes his time and uses the skills we discussed. Good luck!"
"Tonight we reviewed chapters 4 and 5 covering - the organelles: their structure and function - energy exchange within a cell: cellular respiration and photosynthesis - the formation of ATP and its use for energy exchange in the cell - exergonic and endergonic reactions - surface area to volume ratio - osmosis and diffusion - and reviewed worksheet multiple choice."
