I have two master's degrees, one in literature and the other in journalism. I have taught German to English-speaking students, English to German speakers and English literacy to English speakers. I also have broad experience as a mentor. I enjoy the interaction that comes with teaching and tutoring and love to see people become more effective in their everyday lives as a result of our sessions.During my off hours I enjoy reading, making jewelry and walking for exercise.

I am a second year student at the University of New Mexico, working towards bachelor's degrees in Biology and Chemistry. My passion lies in the biological sciences, with an emphasis in ecology, evolution, and organismal biology. From cell structure and function to broader ecology, I simply find Biology enthralling and naturally is my favorite subject to tutor. I got into Miami Dade College, where I enrolled in the science department and majored in biology.During my first semester at Miami Dade College, I won a full tennis scholarship, which helped with tuition and books. After graduating with an Associate of Arts degree, I won another tennis scholarship to St. Thomas University.There, I completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology. As an athlete, I traveled frequently. I was fortunate to experience many different cultures and meet people of various backgrounds. It has enabled me to be flexible and versatile to unexpected turns and twists in life. Maturity provided a stable ground that kept me in the direction I face today.During my college attendance, I volunteered for Jackson Memorial and Baptist Hospital of Miami. It was there that I devoted my time and energy to humanity. I developed a vast understanding of the world of medicine. I volunteered many hours in The Burn Center, Trauma Unit, Pediatric, ICU, ER, and Pathology.cI then got accepted to Barry University, where I received a Master's degree in biomedical sciences. The education and experience I have received have given me the confidence, knowledge, and well-rounded background in medicine and science.I then entered medical college (Xavier University School of Medicine), which provides the knowledge and art of healing the human body. It encompassed many healthcare practices developed to sustain and restore an individual's health.I finally graduated with my MD degree. I could not imagine not being a part of such an exciting, exhilarating, and rewarding field as science and medicine.

I am a graduate of the College of the Holy Cross and the University of Virginia. I received my BA from Holy Cross in Economics and German and my Masters in German from UVa. While at University of Virginia I taught introductory and intermediate German to undergraduate students and also tutored students in essay writing and grammar in both English and German. This past year I taught an undergraduate seminar in Germany at Ruhr University Bochum on German Film. Outside of teaching and tutoring I enjoy playing basketball, collecting vinyl records, reading and creative writing.

I have traveled, lived and worked in several countries overseas. I am currently employed full-time at an executive branch agency with the federal government. I also teach German to adult learners. I am very passionate about language teaching and have a deep understanding and tolerance for diverse learning styles. My students have praised me for my engaging teaching style of incorporating different learning platforms in the classroom (i.e. games, film and video clips) and for being able to make difficult grammar points more understandable for them. As a firm proponent of foreign languages, being part of any educational curriculum, I also enjoy incorporating the relevant culture to the foreign language experience. I want my students to succeed at language study, but recognize that it can be difficult for some, and I always strive for patience and understanding with those who struggle. I am currently working towards my alternative teacher’s certification for the state of Texas through Texas Teachers ACP. I expect to be certified as a grade 4-8 generalist by the end of summer 2014 but will continue to work towards upper level elective certifications including history, language arts, and German.During my college years, I volunteered in multiple student centered capacities including spring break arts and crafts programs. I also trained first year college journalism students for the school paper. Now I volunteer at several area elementary schools as I work towards my teaching certificate.While I can tutor a multitude of subjects, my favorite subjects to tutor are German – all levels, Social Studies/History, and English Language Arts. I took German throughout my school years and had the opportunity to live in Germany for four years. I love studying the various similarities between German and English as well as the fact that Germans have a word for everything! I like to consider myself a pretty big history buff – I love learning about ancient cultures and their effect on our very own culture. Finally, I have always had a knack for reading and writing … my years working in the newspaper field only made me love the English language more.My teaching style is heavily influenced by Howard Gardner's multiple intelligences. I like to tailor my lessons to the learning style of the student, especially when dealing with building block knowledge. I also believe that learning should be interactive and exploratory allowing the student to continuously build on existing knowledge.Outside of academia, I love arts and crafts. I knit, sew, and work with clay whenever I have some spare time. I also garden. I love cooking and baking.
