Milwaukee German Tutoring FAQ

Get in touch with Varsity Tutors if you need a Milwaukee German tutor for yourself or your student. Milwaukee German tutoring can help both professionals and students at any skill level. This includes beginners who want to learn the language and culture, and advanced students who want to focus on building upon their current German language skills.

How can a Milwaukee German tutor near me help me work toward fluency?

Learning German can be a challenge for some native English speakers since there are qualities of the language that work differently than English. Perhaps you have a student taking German in order to fulfill language requirements at their school. Or maybe you plan to go to Germany in the future on vacation and want to know how you can communicate with the locals. Whatever goals you or your student have, a Milwaukee German tutor can help provide support.

Milwaukee German tutors can offer private instruction in a one on one setting. Learning in this manner can be helpful since you are the instructor's sole focus of every lesson. Your mentor can create a customized study plan based around what you already know, and you would like to do in building your knowledge of the German language. You can learn at your own pace, and stop and ask for help when something has you stumped or you have a question.

Milwaukee German tutors can help you by using their expertise to focus on specific areas that you might find difficult at first. One such example is that German grammar changes form to give an indication of gender, number, or the case of a noun, unlike English grammar. Many German students find it easiest to learn about articles together with the noun. Articles can be words such as der or die (the equivalent in English is "the"), or ein and eine (in English these would be "a" and "an"). They can also go over important vocabulary you'll come across as you learn German and the history of the country.

Another component Milwaukee German tutoring can help you in is simulated immersion. You can practice with your instructor by having short conversations if necessary while moving up to longer and more complicated topics. This gives you the chance to speak both formally and casually and can help you or your student feel more confident if you ever need to talk with native speakers.

How can I fit in time with Milwaukee German tutors into my schedule?

One benefit of choosing private instruction is having someone who is available when it works best for you or your student. We keep your personal and professional commitments in mind and then do the work to find someone who has the skills necessary to help you or your student when it works best for you. This can make it easier to work toward your German language goals while respecting your prior commitments.

You can choose to have Milwaukee German tutoring either online or in person. If you choose the online option, you'll meet with your instructor over the Live Learning Platform. Here, you can use video chat to have real-time interactions, practice conversation, and even use a document editor to help you learn the pronunciation of the German language, along with accented words. One benefit of private instruction online means you'll never need to leave home.

If you'd like to work with an instructor in person, we can find someone who is available at a time that works for you, and able to teach you German at your current skill level. You can meet at a location of your choosing, like your home, or even a public setting such as a coffee shop or the Milwaukee Public Library.

If you would like to learn in a classroom setting, Varsity Tutors offers German language courses. You'll work with a qualified instructor and meet fellow classmates who have the same goals as you and want to learn or improve their German. There are multiple course sections with offerings taking place on varying days and different times. This allows you to pick the section that best matches your schedule.

German Tutoring review by Ariele in Milwaukee, WI
The student and I worked more numbers and operations problems and reviewed numerical concepts, and practiced more sentence completion questions which she is really getting the hang of. We also applied a similar strategy to critical reading passages, and began reviewing algebraic concepts as well. She should complete her homework and take practice exam 2 in the book before our Sunday meeting.

German Tutoring review by Alyssa in Milwaukee, WI
Now that we finished the Invisible Man, we're using it as source material to write responses to literature. We normally only write 15-line paragraphs, but I challenged the student to write a page-long response to the question "is the Invisible Man a good character (protagonist) or a bad character (antagonist)?" He continues to struggle with developing a cogent, sophisticated argument - for example, the Invisible Man is bad because he killed people which is bad. I'm trying to make him use concrete evidence from the text and then flesh it out with good commentary. He has gotten a lot better at organizing his thoughts though, and remembers to go through the mental checklist of grammar/punctuation/intro/conclusion/etc. before announcing he's finished. Even though he has a long way to go, I'm proud of what the student has accomplished. We will meet 3 more times before he leaves for the summer.

The student filled me in on the new topics he is covering in class (finding an angle between 2 vectors). He understood the basic concepts well. We went over some of his homework problems that he was having trouble with. After talking through the questions, he did excellent working through the math.

German Tutoring review by Kathleen in Milwaukee, WI
The student was very focused and hardworking today. He had clearly been studying for his dictation test since he was able to write all of the characters from memory. We still practiced for the test so that he could write sentences and write the characters more accurately. He did very well making sentences for his homework, and even though he still struggles to remember Chinese "function words" (pronouns, prepositions), he is making great improvement.

German Tutoring review by Marcel in Milwaukee, WI
During this session we practiced a little bit of basic conversation in the beginning. We also started to learn new vocabulary in the context of body parts. He did a very good job trying to memorize different body parts. I had him draw a human being and asked him to connect the body parts to his drawing. I believe that this was an easier way of teaching him new words. The main part of this session was to understand what reflexive pronouns are and how they are used. For the next sessions, we will focus more on time, dates, and reflexive pronouns.

German Tutoring review by Charles in Milwaukee, WI
The student reported back with good news: a solid A on his last quiz. The relentless drilling really paid off. The next test, coming this Friday, will cover wholly similar material, and I anticipate another good result! We continued drilling numbers, family members, articles, and possessive adjectives/pronouns.
