Chicago German Tutoring FAQ

If you've found yourself or your student in need of a top-tier Chicago German tutor, Varsity Tutors can connect you with a private instructor. More than 95 million people speak the language globally, and it is the second most spoken native language in Europe after Russia. Given the prevalence of the language, fluency can make you a more marketable job candidate, making it a popular choice of study. Maybe your high school student has just started down this path. Maybe you're the one beginning in college. Whatever the case, if you're ready to invest in your future, working with a Chicago German tutor can be a step in the right direction.

What are the benefits of working with a Chicago German tutor near me?

There are a number of reasons to consider securing the services of a private instructor, but one of the most obvious ones is that you get the support of a German language expert. Learning German can be a challenge on your own or even in a conventional classroom setting. Nouns may be singular or plural, come in three different genders, and may be nominative, accusative, genitive, or dative. They are preceded by articles, definite or indefinite, dependent upon gender and plurality. Verbs are conjugated relative to their subjects in either the present, present perfect, simple past, past perfect, future, or future perfect tense. The rules governing how these elements interact can be complicated and difficult to understand, but working with a Chicago German tutor can make the learning process easier to navigate.

Chicago German tutors can also make learning how to speak the language a little simpler. Whether you meet with your instructor using video chat on our Live Learning platform or in person, they can help you practice the German accent, correct your pronunciation in real time, and get you used to translating a conversational rate of German on the fly. This can be especially helpful for professionals who are contemplating a move to a German-speaking country for work or just looking to more productively interact with their international counterparts. It can also be useful for students preparing for higher-level coursework where instruction takes place almost entirely in German.

Chicago German tutoring can be customized to your individual learning needs. In a traditional classroom setting, teachers can't necessarily wait to make sure every student is ready to go before moving on to the next unit. They only have so many days in the school year to get through their curriculum. Your Chicago German tutor can afford to wait, though. If it takes a little longer than expected for you to wrap your mind around a topic, that's perfectly fine. These sessions are about you, not a specific schedule.

Chicago German tutors can tailor their tactics to your preferred methods of instruction. They can take the time to get to know you and your personality, and build lesson plans to motivate you. For instance, some people best absorb information through repetition. If this describes you, flashcards might be a good way to improve your recall of vocabulary words. Maybe you have a competitive streak a mile wide. If you do, consecutive timed vocabulary quizzes might be a good way to motivate your improved recall. The ability to customize instruction approaches to best engage their students can give Chicago German tutors an edge in helping you pursue your goals.

Chicago German tutoring presents a flexible learning opportunity. We can match you with an instructor whose schedule dovetails nicely with your own, so your sessions end up taking place on your time. You also get to choose where you participate. If the online option makes sense for you, you can log on to our Live Learning Platform and connect using video chat, the virtual whiteboard, and document sharing from the campus library at the University of Chicago or from your kitchen table. If you'd prefer to meet face to face, you can arrange to see your local instructor at a nearby cafe. This sort of flexibility makes Chicago German tutoring a great option for busy professionals and students.

The student and I focused on geometry of molecules this session.  His assignment was to describe the structures of a series of molecules and ions.  He finished one of them with guidance, and can now complete the others on his own.  We also reviewed network covealent bonds and electrical conductivity of ionic solutions.  We are planning to meet again Wednesday evening.

German Tutoring review by Alyssa in Chicago, IL
This was my first meeting with the student.  We covered what he had been doing with his previous tutor, what his course schedule at school looked like, and where he thought he might want to aim for on the ACT.  His mother thought a score of 30 would be great. Then we looked over an English passage and a Reading passage.  We ended with timing and seeing how he did doing a Reading passage on his own. We were able to make decent progress in diagnosing some areas of weakness.  He will begin to consistently use a grammar cheat sheet so that he can master the information for English questions, and use certain strategies for the Reading sections in order to stick closer to the allotted time.

German Tutoring review by Jeremy in Chicago, IL
Today we worked on reviewing for the student's upcoming quiz and his upcoming test. We accomplished this by a variety of methods. First, he filled in blank diagrams of the ETC and the Krebs cycle. Next, we worked on practice quizzes on CK-12. This allowed us to focus on the areas of chapter 7 that he needed to review. To my delight, these areas were few and far between. We covered organization of cellular respiration as well as a few smaller topics. Since this did not take long, we spent the remainder of our time reviewing basic science methodology in preparation for the final.

German Tutoring review by Marcel in Chicago, IL
For todays session we started to talk about the new chapter in the student's book. First I helped him with his homework, which was writing sentences with the new vocabulary. After that we went over some of the vocabulary which I believe will be part of his next exam. Overall he is doing good in acquiring the knowledge of the new subject matter. Next week, we will continue with this and prepare him for his upcoming tests.

German Tutoring review by Nicole in Chicago, IL
The student and I completed a worksheet related to a lesestueck in her book. Then we read a longer lesestueck and completed book questions about it. We reviewed dative case articles, prepositions, and verbs. Then, I introduced dative case personal pronouns. We made a chart with nominative, accusative, and dative personal pronouns. Then, we completed books questions on the topic.
