Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered percent change, both increase and decrease. We also covered multiplying and dividing fractions. The student did very well, but we worked on using number sense in order to catch mistakes in our work. We used lots of mental math strategies that help make sense of all kinds of different problems. We also worked on grammar, the use of commas mostly. Everything went very well."
"We covered setting up an equation given its written sentence form, what quotient product difference and sum mean, how to write sentence form of an equation, radicals and how to solve, and PEMDAS simplification principle."
"We covered significant figures, identifying functions, domain and range, writing a rule for given domain and range, +, -, x, and fractions. The student was very receptive to the new material and appreciated the review of fractions. He learned the sig fig strategy of thinking of the US as the decimal point: if you're coming from the Pacific Ocean side and the decimal is Present or Atlantic Ocean side if the decimal is absent, then going in that direction until a whole number is reached before counting sig figs."
"We covered simple algebraic equations. She seemed to have difficulty applying the concepts to more difficult problem types like the ones she will see on her test. We also covered simple spreadsheet commands from Excel for her homework that she missed from earlier in the week. We also covered a section on graphing and writing inequalities. Overall she seems to have difficulty diagnosing what the questions were asking which leads to her being confused as to where to start. I will continue working with her on problem type recognition so that she can successfully recognize what problems are asking so she will know where to start."
"We covered solving equations. She struggled most with identifying negative numbers, which I alleviated by telling her to always keep a mental note of it. She got better at it, and I made up some problems to reinforce her learning. She was happy throughout! Good progress!"
"We covered solving for x through quadratic, completing the square, and factoring. Student struggles with how to start problems. Student was very enthusiastic about material. Strategies included how to best approach the problems. No specific extra practice was left besides reviewing for test. Yes, I did see a score and will review progress later. One win of student feeling like they understand better."
