Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student is up to date in all subjects. We worked together on an English assignment. He has a first draft of his first major paper due Thursday. He has also started working on one of his larger history assignments."
"The student and I went over piecewise functions again (she understands this much, much better. Still, she needs to practice this daily in order to become proficient ). In addition, we went over the biology of plants again. She understands the biology very well, but has yet to memorize anything completely (I suggested she make notecards for memorizing/studying)."
"In my first session with the student, we worked through a reading comprehension and interpretation homework assignment for his course which consisted of about 3 pages of dense reading and 10 long-answer questions. He does a good job understanding the big picture, but needs work on vocabulary. To help this, I assigned him some vocabulary words (indicated in the reading) and to make flashcards."
"The student and I focused on handwriting, specifically cursive, and math. I have noticed that the way she writes some letters in cursive makes writing words more time consuming and disrupts the flow of her writing. The only way to help her with her handwriting is to have her practice over and over again with meticulous care as to how she is writing each letter. I plan on working with her on this front. I am happy that she seems to do well in math."
"Met with the student and her family for the first time. Reviewed the student's core curriculum and level of Spanish (Spanish I). Began working on her homework for the weekend; reading an intermediate-level passage from a historical text and then answering six questions about said passage. Noticed that she is very adept at reading and pronunciation, but struggles with vocabulary. Tried a sentence-by-sentence approach (reading the passage one sentence at a time while listing and subsequently reviewing all words that she didn't understand). To conclude, I had her apply our new vocabulary list to the passage for a final read-through, which she understood extremely well."
