How can Biology tutoring help you succeed?

The terms, principles, and ideas that students learn in their biology course lay the foundation for the more sophisticated science classes they will take in the future. It's critical that students wishing to pursue an advanced field of science have a great understanding of the fundamentals of biology. Learning these foundational elements of the subject isn't always easy. The terminology is extensive, and biology requires students to think about science in new, complex ways. Sometimes one hour in the classroom isn't enough time to learn a concept. So when students make an effort to study the concept on their own, it could often be overwhelming and tough to know how to start. Fortunately, students do not have to tackle the complexities and nuances of biology by themselves. If you're a student struggling in your biology course, consider partnering with a personal biology tutor. Contact Varsity Tutors for assistance in connecting with biology tutors near Georgetown, TX.

Working one-on-one with an exclusive biology tutor, you'll have the ability to ask as many questions as you will need. Your tutor will respond with immediate and informative feedback. This benefit is normally lost in traditional classroom environments, where educators do not have the time or resources to deal with every student's individual concerns. With an exclusive biology tutor, you may be certain that all gaps in your comprehension will be bridged. Varsity Tutors can connect you with a talented biology tutor in Georgetown who could help you set goals and potentially exceed them on time.

Session Summaries by Biology Tutors

Georgetown, TX Biology tutoring
We reviewed how the periodic table was organized, converting word equations to chemical equations, predicting the results of chemical reactions, solubility and writing binary ionic formulas as well as polyatomic formulas. She completed 2 out of the 3 unit reviews without difficulty and her I assigned her certain problems to focus on for the unit 3 review. She catches on to new concepts pretty quickly.

We went over some of the topics on the student's most recent homework. This mainly focused on crystal structure and density, as well as colligative properties. We spent most of the time focused on crystals. He had a good initial understanding of this topic.

We covered the Einstein and Planck equations and concepts about electrons, wavelength, frequency, and electron orbitals. We discussed specific heat. We did about a dozen homework and quiz problems. She was struggling with the (perfect) application of unit conversion factors and setting up equations based on word problems using those conversion factors. Again, the application of knowledge is the struggle -- and it's what chemistry is about. She needs to do more practice problems as I mentioned for the previous session -- I suggested that she do all the practice problems in her study guide before the test. No concerns.

We went over the PowerPoint that the student's class had covered. The PowerPoint went over gases--specifically Charles' law, Boyle's law, Gay-Lussac's law, and Avogadro's relation of moles of gas and volume. The student was relatively confident with the material, and did a good job working through the sample questions on her own.

The student just returned from her Spring break, so we spent the session reviewing a study guide provided by her teacher. The guide discussed a few topics that were previously discussed as well as some future lectures that the class will soon learn. Today's session was largely dedicated to an understanding of isotopic notation and how to calculate the percentages of isotopes in natural samples. My goal with the student is to make sure that she has an understanding of many equations and values that need to be memorized in order to succeed in the class. Many times, she needed to check her notes for very basic equations, and I think these equations need to be well understood in order to have success. I will continue to emphasize the points I feel are key, and show how they are necessary in an ever expanding curriculum. Next week, we will go over the points that are covered in this week's class.

At the student's request I quizzed her over the material she will be tested on tomorrow. I also wrote down some things I thought she might like to spend some additional time on. Finally, I suggested she use the questions at the end of the chapters to direct her in what else she could do to prepare this evening.
