Geometry Tutoring review by Brandon in Quincy, MA
We went over the student's test corrections for his tests on chapters 7 and 8. We went over the incorrect problems and found similar problems to solve from the book. For the most part, the questions dealt with similar triangles, altitudes, and trigonometry. The student seemed to be understanding the material much better than before. He even scored a B on his most recent test, which was an improvement.

Reviewed Chapter 9 concepts and questions using conjectures referring to tangent lines and radii that meet at the point of tangency and when 2 chords in a semicircle that share an endpoint and so are perpendicular. Also went over the basic trig functions of sine, cosine, and tangent and how to determine their ratios.

Geometry Tutoring review by Robert in Quincy, MA
The student and I met for the first time today to work on geometry. Her class is covering distances between points and equations of circles. Other material in the current chapter includes the Pythagorean theorem and properties of special right triangles. We determined very quickly that she is comfortable with the Pythagorean theorem, so I used that knowledge to demonstrate the relationships of 30-60-90 and 45-45-90 triangles. I then showed how these relationships can be useful by allowing us to compute side lengths using ratios. We finished our session by working through some word problems involving the Pythagorean theorem, and even had time to cover much of her current homework assignment.

Geometry Tutoring review by Lydia in Quincy, MA
During our session today, the student wrote out the proof we had begun working on during our last session. This was challenging, but he made it through. Once he had completed the proof, I looked over it and explained why a few things needed to be corrected, and then he corrected them.

Geometry Tutoring review by Michael in Quincy, MA
We looked at the student's homework dealing with proportionality of triangles and similar triangles. I had him create proportions from two similar triangles given sides of abstract lengths (A, B,C, etc.). He was able to create the fundamental equation to the idea of a proportion (A/a = B/b = C/c), so then I included number lengths and had him use a proportion to find the missing side. We then talked about what that really meant, and I asked him how many times bigger the larger triangle was than the smaller in that case. We discussed what it meant for all sides. He said after we were finished with this exercise that he then began to understand all of the proportionality problems. We continued with and reviewed his homework successfully after that.
