Recent Bryant Tutoring Session Notes

Tutoring review by Joseph in Bryant, NY
The session began by planning out the student's tests for the upcoming week and viewing his progress on other assignments. He notified me that he made an 85 on his latest Spanish quiz, his highest grade yet. We determined that writing out the terms in English and Spanish, multiple times, was an effective tool in learning the material. We then moved quickly into covering his geometry homework and chemistry lab write-up. He displayed an ability to grasp the new math concepts quickly; however, did not need some prompting in order to utilize new terms. We will review parallel lines and angles formed by them during our next session. We ended the session by working on a chemistry lab that he has due. He had to make a unique periodic table that follows the trends of the periodic table of elements. The student had a basic idea, but needed some help in his creativity. He decided to take a risk and use condiments. Since he was engaged in a more physical and messy activity, he was more active in his learning. This was an excellent session.

The student did tonight's homework. He has 2 quizzes and a test this week/ next Monday. I asked him if he had any questions or wanted to review any of his previous homework assignments, but he did not (we had reviewed most of them previously).

Tutoring review by Roshni in Bryant, NY
Today we covered Algebra and word problems. Today we worked on Algebra, and the student is slowly beginning to understand what it is about. However, it will take a lot more practice for her to be able to do these problems on her own. A lot of our time was spent on Algebra, so tomorrow I hope we can be more efficient and work on only the math problems she has an issue with.

The student and I worked on the science section. He was consistently scoring between 25 and 27. His scientific reasoning is sound, although he occasionally misses important details. Practice should take care of this.

Tutoring review by Yemi in Bryant, NY
We started out discussing what concepts she's gone over in class so far. We specifically went over nomenclature, ions, and unit conversions. She wasn't able to get the basic understanding at first. However, once I went over the concepts with her, she was able to understand it more clearly. I gave her examples to try and she tried her best to work it out. I made sure that by the end that I was able to answer all her questions. She didn't take the test that she was supposed to have today, but after our session she seemed more confident to take the test after she practices a little bit more.

Today the student and I moved on to lesson 4, which is on powers of ten and measurements. Lesson 4 uses the conversion of mm and cm to m to substitute for 1x10^2 and 1x10^3. The second half of our session was very productive. She can do all of the mathematics involved in the power of ten problems.
