Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We worked on more factoring and solving trinomials. After reminding him how to solve these problems, we worked on his worksheet/homework. There were a few questions that involved imaginary numbers, so I did a quick review on what that was. I was making sure that he remembered to make it a positive/negative when he square roots a number and making sure that it becomes a habit. I think one aspect that has improved is that he knows that I won't give him the answers easily and even if he gets an answer correct, I will ask him how or why that is the correct answer."
"We covered in depth angles and classifying triangles. Specifically covering acute, obtuse, and right angles. We also reviewed isosceles, equilateral, and right triangles. With the remainder of our time, we covered forces in science. We worked on acceleration and deceleration worksheet."
"The student has the second of a two-part test tomorrow, so we concentrated on studying for that. We narrowed down the topics covered to the ones she finds most challenging, and she took a practice test. She did well time-wise. In order to improve her test grade, I advised her to practice the same test over, and concentrate on staying precise and accurate, and trying to have enough time at the end to check her answers."
"The student got a B on her math test. She finished the quarter with a B+! Today we worked on volume of prisms (cylinders, cones, and spheres). We reviewed Pythagorean theorem and solved composite volume problems."
"We went over what he did in regards to his data set (i.e. performed test of normality for the year). He seemed to need the right direction in terms of analyzing the data. He seemed confident about the material that was reviewed. I did not include any strategies or study skills in this session. I suggested to him to find the values for his three variables of interest for all of the observations first before performing tests of normality and regression correlation tests amongst them."
"Both students are working on identifying corresponding sides, finding missing sides, and whether or not two figures are similar. I gave them practice problems and they both did extremely well with them."
