The student and I met for the first time today. We reviewed math problems to get a feel for where he is at. He has great math skills - I think he just needs a little review. He hasn't ever taken trigonometry so we're going to teach him the basics. We talked about intermolecular forces, different types of bonds, and phase changes. We discussed dipole-dipole interactions, hydrogen bonding, and London dispersion forces. I think the repetition really helped him see the style of the SAT and how questions would be set up, and enabled him to make quicker decisions on what kind of words would fill the blank and which he can then use to narrow down his answer choices. I think he should continue working through those, as well as his essay for colleges. He's also scheduled to do another practice critical reading section this weekend.
